Here’s fun Star Wars-themed spot I shot for director and visual effects guru Bruce Branit:
The spot was produced by Through A Glass Productions for BranitFX.
The basic premise was to set up a commercial that looked like a Cialis / Viagra spot (aided by the music, and blue color correction) and then do a bate and switch to end with a Millenium Falcon. Bruce peppered lots of Star Wars easter eggs throughout for fans to catch upon repeated viewing. Here are some behind the scenes pics from the restaurant scene:
The lighting for the restaurant scene was a combination of directional book lights (2K Mighty bounced into bead board, then sent through a 4×4 of 250 diffusion) and an overhead light spotted into the table as an eye light. The background was lit with tungsten units for the background actors, well-placed Christmas lights on the architecture, and single-tubed kinos hidden underneath the plants in the deep background.
For the Christmas / Fireplace scene, I was literally backed into a corner for lighting, so I placed a showcard bounce just behind the actors heads, attached it to the fireplace, and shot a Source4 into the card to create a soft back light. The rest of the scene was a combination of a kino hidden under the Christmas tree, an LED rigged in the background, a practical bulb on a dimmer in the lamp in the background and a special for the fireplace. For the close-up shots, I actually balled up a giant string of Christmas lights and rigged them off of a C-stand, close to the actors’ faces for an eyelight.
Love the final spot! To see more of Bruce Branit’s amazing work, check out BranitFX.
